Xpressive arts center poway1/5/2024 ![]() If you have any questions, please feel free to comment or email me at: artstudiosandiego. This winter has been so warm and beautiful, the contrast between our weather and the deep freeze everywhere else, made me think how every day in outhern California is a runaway day. The view is from the succulent garden I made that feels like it’s on top of the world. Painting by Cathy Carey 2015© “Runaway Day” It was easy to imagine this family of quail living under the sage and scrub brush somewhere long the trails. It’s always the same posturing: with the Dad standing guard, Mom frazzled and running fast trying to keep the chicks all moving along, and the brand new chicks tottering along. We have a lot of quail in our area, and I like to watch them run across the paths. ![]() This painting takes place in the neighborhood of Lomas Sernas, a lovely community of homes at the base of Bernardo Mountain. Inside the historic stone building, instructors lead an array of classes in printmaking, beadwork, and painting to stoke the flames of each individual’s artistic. Painting by Cathy Carey 2015© “Quail Crossing” (above) Bonnie Stromer, a registered art therapist, opened Xpressive Arts Center to make art programs available for everyone in the community, animating her belief that the arts are an important form of self-expression and communication. See this one at my show at the Poway Performing Arts Center for the month of September. The texture of the cactus in the foreground echoes the gold stars in the skies, bringing the heavens back home. In this adaptation, I made the sky and cosmos thick with gold and silvery stars, the milky way and nebula’s. I like to see how my style changes and to add new elements to this favorite scene of a favorite place. I have painted this scene of La Quinta out in the desert at night, several times. Looking at them on the computer isn’t exactly the same, but you can get a small look at them below! Painting by Cathy Carey 2015© “Desert Night Music” If you are local of La Jolla, or just like viewing paintings, make sure to stop by the La Playa Gallery to check out some of the paintings I have located there.
